The Wells College baseball team wrapped up a weekend homestand with a doubleheader split against D'Youville College on Sunday, March 26 at the Wells Turf Field. Wells turned in its best day at the plate in its inaugural season with a 16-5 victory in the latter game of the doubleheader.

In the second game, the Wells lineup came alive with 16 runs and 21 hits in the victory. Both totals were season-bests for the Express. Seven different players had multi-hit games.

Leading the way with a 4-for-4 day with four runs scored was Justin Forster. Tanner Dunkel was 3-for-3 and scored three times. A.J. Nesci and Greyson Avots had three hits each and drove in three runs each. Brandon Shirly had two doubles and three RBIs and Mark Yorkey had two hits and drove in four.

The Express dropped the opening game 9-4 after a six-run inning in the fifth proved to be the difference for D'Youville. Wells scored twice in the third and twice in the sixth.

Tanner Dunkel tripled and scored in the third, and Dylan Nolan singled to drive in Brandon Shirley, who reached base with a double. In the sixth, Chris Forney doubled to bring home Anthony Aumick and Forney scored on a sacrifice fly from Justin Forster.

Zach Kemp pitched four innings and had seven strikeouts, including striking out the side in the top of the first. Johnny Hall pitched the last three innings and had one strikeout.

Combined totals from both games had Dunkel with five hits, Nesci with four and a pair each from Nolan, Forney and Yorkey with the latter three having an extra-base hit. Nesci and Yorkey totaled four RBI each, while Dunkel scored four runs and Yorkey crossed the plate twice.
