Men's Lacrosse & Women's Lacrosse: "On This Day" 4-27-19

"On This Day" is a Wells College Athletics feature designed to look back over the past three seasons when most of our 2020 seniors began play for the Express and what highlights happened to Wells' spring teams on this day on April 27

Men's Lacrosse: April 27, 2019

The Wells College men's lacrosse team may not have wrapped up its 2019 season with a victory, but at least one player had a fantastic finish as one of the best individual performances of the season. Quinten Battle scored five times for the Express in defeat on the road at Cazenovia College on Saturday, April 27.

The Express outscored the Wildcats 5-4 in the second half with Battle netting three of Wells' five tallies. The other two came via Nathan Ramsey and Justin Dude. Ramsey was in on four of the five second half goals after adding three helpers.

Jared Shearer made 11 saves in goal. Aaron Ramsey had three caused turnovers and Trevor Stein led Wells with four ground balls.

Women's Lacrosse: April 27, 2019

The Wells College women's lacrosse team won its fourth game in a row and wrapped up the regular season with a 17-8 win at Medaille College on Saturday, April 27. The victory improved Wells' record to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

Wells clinched fourth place in the NEAC standings and will host a conference playoff game Tuesday against Cazenovia College.

The Express trailed 3-0 and 5-2 in the first half, but closed the first half with a 4-1 run and the game was tied 6-6 at halftime. Medaille scored first in the second half to regain the lead, but Wells answered with 11 goals in a row over a span of 18 minutes to cruise home with the win.

Wells had a 41-20 advantage in shots including a 22-8 advantage in the second half.

Mackenzie Maloney factored-in on 14 of the 17 Wells goals with six goals and eight assists. Savanah Connors had eight goals and an assist. Julia Smith, Miranda Mingen, and Renee Bartosz scored the other Wells goals, while Anna Bozeat had four saves in net.
