Salem Lacrosse Hosting Wells on Wednesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem lacrosse team puts the finishing touches on its first of two three-game homestands on Wednesday, March 11, when it plays host to Wells at Varsity Field at 3:30 p.m.

Salem (1-5) is looking to halt a five-game winning streak that dates back to a 19-1 setback at Southern Virginia on Feb. 28.

The Spirits wrapped up the weekend with a 21-1 setback to Piedmont on Sunday, March 8. The Lions were led offensively by Rowan Bumpass, who netted a game-high five goals, along with teammates Emma Fransen and Domonique Steele, who added four each.

Salem received its one goal of the day from Collette Vladimery, who also came through with two caused turnovers, as did teammate Teia Horton. Hannah Ostlund made nine stops in goal for the Spirits, including five in the second half.

Horton leads the way for Salem in goals (11), while Vladimery has tallied eight and Sara Jimenez have come through with seven. Ostlund, who has logged 363 minutes in net, has made 55 saves for the Spirits in the first six games of the season.

Wells, a member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), opened its season with a 16-7 loss at Potsdam on March 4. The Express was led offensively by Kari Jensen, who scored three goals, while Delaney Kendrick tallied eight saves.

The Express reached the first round of the NEAC Tournament in 2019 and fell to Cazenovia by a 14-13 margin. Wells capped off the season 8-6 overall and 6-3 in league play last season.
