Nolan Homers Twice In Baseball Openers

The Wells College baseball team opened its 2019 season with a home doubleheader against Pitt Bradford on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Wells Turf Field. Pitt Bradford won the opening game 8-1 and took the second game 10-6. Dylan Nolan homered in each game for Wells.

Wells is back in action Sunday, Feb. 24 at noon with a single nine-inning game against Pitt Bradford to complete the three-game set.

Pitt Bradford 8, Wells 1

Pitt Bradford starting pitcher Ryan Boyer pitched a complete-game one-hitter with 16 strikeouts and no walks. The lone hit he allowed was a solo homer from Wells catcher Dylan Nolan with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. It prevented a perfect game for Boyer.

Derek Shea was the starting pitcher for Wells and allowed four hits and four runs with three strikeouts.

Pitt Bradford 10, Wells 6

Pitt Bradford broke through with five runs in the top of the third and went on to the win. Wells climbed back into the game with four in the sixth inning that included an RBI single from Jordan VanHerpe, a two-run double from Dylan Nolan, and an RBI single from Anthony Aumick.

Nolan also hit a solo home run in the third inning.

Starting pitcher Zach Kemp took the loss pitching into the third inning with five strikeouts and six earned runs allowed.
