Pitt Bradford Completes Weekend Sweep Of Wells Baseball

The Wells College baseball team fell behind early and lost 14-2 against Pitt Bradford on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Wells Turf Field. Pitt Bradford completed a three-game series sweep over Saturday and Sunday in the season-opening weekend for both teams. Tyler Young homered for Wells.

Pitt Bradford scored a single run in the top of the first inning and added seven more in the top of the third on three hits.

Wells got on the board in the bottom of the third when Tanner Dunkel hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on a deep fly ball, and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Derek Shea.

The second Wells run came on a solo home run to center field by Tyler Young in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Wells starter Jared Strait took the loss. He pitched into the third inning with two walks and two strikeouts. Freshman left-hander Noah Smith saw his first collegiate action and pitched three and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts. Mark Yorkey and Tanner Dunkel pitched the final three innings. Logan Edmonds earned the win for Pitt Bradford with five innings of work. He had three strikeouts and no walks in relief of starter Noah McMullen.

Wells will continue its season-opening homestand Saturday and Sunday, March 2 and 3 with a pair of doubleheaders. Wells faces SUNY Canton on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., and then takes on Alfred State beginning at noon Sunday.
