Abington Takes First Two Games Of Baseball Series

The Wells College baseball team lost the first two games of a three-game series between two North Eastern Athletic Conference upper-division teams. Penn State Abington won the first game 13-1 and took the second game 15-7 on Saturday, April 13.

The teams will meet in the series wrap-up game Sunday, April 14 at 10 a.m. at the Wells Turf Field.

Penn State Abington 13, Wells 1

Abington scored multiple runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take control. Wells got a run in the bottom of the seventh on an Anthony Aumick single to bring in Tanner Dunkel. Six players had one hit each for Wells. Dunkel and Mark Yorkey doubled. Zach Kemp was the losing pitcher.

Penn State Abington 15, Wells 7

The Lions scored three in the first, four in the second and five in the fourth.

Wells got two runs in the bottom of the first with a run on a wild pitch and another on a balk. In the second inning, Derek Shea scored on a stolen base when another Wells runner was thrown out stealing at second.

In the sixth, Dylan Nolan homered, then back-to-back doubles by Tyler Young and Tanner Dunkel brought in another run. Dunkel scored on an RBI ground out by Derek Shea. Shea delivered a sac fly in the eighth to score Tyler Young.

Jared Strait was the losing pitcher for Wells. Matt Morgan pitched five solid innings in relief.

Nolan and Dunkel had multi-hit games for Wells. Shea drove in two and scored once.
