Keuka Wins Baseball Doubleheader Over Wells

The Wells College baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to start a three-game North Eastern Athletic Conference series against Keuka College on Saturday, April 27 at the Wells Turf Field. Keuka won the first game 9-5 and rallied for a 7-6 win in the second game. The teams will wrap up the series with a single, 9-inning game Sunday, April 28 at 3 p.m.

KEUKA 9, WELLS 5

The Wolves scored eight runs over the final four innings to take the victory. A.J. Nesci singled in the first Wells run in the second inning. The Express added another in the fifth on an RBI single by Dylan Nolan that scored Mark Yorkey, who doubled earlier in the inning. Derek Shea had an RBI double in the sixth.

Shea and Nolan had three hits each to pace the Express. Yorkey had two hits. A.J. Nesci was 1-for-3 and drove in two runs.

Zach Kemp was the starting pitcher for Wells and allowed eight runs on 11 hits, but just two runs were earned. He had five strikeouts. Matt Morgan pitched the final inning and two-thirds.

KEUKA 7, WELLS 6

Wells took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third. A.J. Nesci had an RBI single and Dylan Nolan had an RBI double in the rally. Two more runs scored for Wells in the fifth on a Tyler Young single to center and an infield error by the Wolves. Wells led 6-2 after five.

In the top of the sixth, Keuka got two runs, then added a pair of unearned runs in the eighth.

A.J. Nesci had three singles for the Express and scored twice. Jordan VanHerpe scored two runs.

Jared Strait pitched six solid innings with five strikeouts. Alexander Mott took the loss and Mark Yorkey pitched the final two innings with two strikeouts.
