Kemp Named NCBWA Pitcher of the Week Honorable Mention

Wells College senior baseball captain was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's (NCBWA) NCAA D-III Pitcher of the Week Honorable Mention on March 18.

The NCBWA's press release said the following about Kemp:

Honorable Mention Pitcher: Zach Kemp, Sr., Wells College – Named the North Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after hurling seven innings of scoreless ball in a 3-0 victory against Vassar College on Tuesday. The senior came within one strikeout of matching the school record for strikeouts in a game with 13 and allowed just five hits and walked two.

Kemp finished runner-up to Colby-Sawyer College sophomore Kaelen Close, who tossed a one-hit shutout during his team's 12-0 win over D'Youville College last week. Close, who struck out 10, was one strike away from a no-hitter.

The NCBWA compiles a preseason ranking of the top 35 teams in the nation, as voted on by its members. In addition, weekly rankings of the top 30 teams are released throughout the season and after the College World Series.
