Field Hockey Nets 1-0 Senior Day Victory vs. Oswego St.

SENIOR DAY GAME PROGRAM

AURORA, N.Y. – Senior Chandler Fitzgerald (Weedsport, N.Y.) scored the game's lone goal at 27:48 of the first half, propelling the Wells College field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over the Lakers from Oswego State University on Saturday. Wells moves to 4-9 overall on the year with the victory while the Lakers dip to 3-8 on the year.

With the victory, Wells has defeated Oswego State for the first time since Sept. 29, 1992, snapping a 21-game losing streak to the Lakers.

Fitzgerald's game-winning goal was set up after pace in transition led to an odd-man attempt near the Oswego State cage. With the ball on the right side, junior Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.Y.) sent a pass from right-to-left that was tapped home by Fitzgerald behind Lakers goalkeeper Sarita Charap, who was frozen near the right post.

The game only featured eight total shots as the Express and Lakers each fired only four in the game, but each team had their chances on the afternoon. Wells goalkeeper Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.) made an outstanding kick save against an Oswego State forward in the first half before junior Lexi Cohen (Newtown, Pa.) saved the game for Wells in the second half with a clutch defensive save to keep the Lakers scoreless in the tilt.

Wilson earned her third career victory for Wells in goal, making two saves on the afternoon, while Charap allowed one goal on two shots faced for the Lakers.

The Express honored its five graduating senior student-athletes with a pre-game ceremony. Honorees included Wilson, Fitzgerald, Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Shelby Bourn (Sidney, N.Y.) and Cat Taylor (Jackson, N.J.).

Wells returns to action next Sunday, Oct. 25 as they welcome Hartwick to the Athletic Association Field for a 1 p.m. home contest.
