BISON HOLD OFF EXPRESS FOR VICTORY

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ Despite five players in double-figures the Wells College men's basketball team could not fight off the Bison of Gallaudet University, falling 91-84 in North Eastern Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon in Aurora. The Express fall to 2-5 (2-1 NEAC), while the Bison improve to 4-2 (1-0 NEAC).
 
Ronald Teekasingh (Binghamton, N.Y./Johnson City) led all Express scorers with 17 points, including hitting on four of nine from behind the arc. Dave Foltz (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) finished with 13 points, ten assists, and three rebounds. Terry Harrison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Forest Hills) added 15 points. Israel Garcia (Cotulla, Texas/Cotulla) added 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Benito Perez (Crystal City, Texas/Crystal) finished with 12 points to round out the scoring for Wells.
 
Tony Tatum (Gardendale, Ala.) led the Bison with a game high 29 points. Joshua Sisco (Spartanburg, S.C.) added 20 points and seven rebounds. Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) scored 18 points, including 14 in the second half, while Danny Kelly (Strongville, Ohio) notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Gallaudet.
 
The Bison shot 51.6 percent from the floor and 54.5 percent in the second half, while the Express finished 41.7 percent from the floor. The Express were hot from behind the arc, hitting on 12 of 25 shots from 3-point range, while the Bison finished 4 of 11 from behind the arc. Gallaudet controlled the glass, holding a 45-35 advantage.
 
Garcia opened the game with two straight 3-pointers as the Express jumped out to a 26-15 lead mid-way through the first half. But Tatum took over from there, scoring eight straight points and ten of 12, as the Bison went on a 14-0 run over a four minute span to take a 29-26 lead. The Express answered right back with a 9-0 run of their own and would close the half with a slim 37-35 lead.
 
The Bison came out of the locker room and hit eight of their first 12 shots, opening up a nine point lead (46-55) with 13:48 to play. The Express continued to fight, climbing to within three (72-69) on a Perez 3-pointer with 3:28 to play. The game came down to free-throws and the Bison would not break, hitting eight of ten free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
 
Wells will look to bounce back tomorrow against NEAC opponent Penn. St. Harrisburg at 3 p.m. in Aurora.
