Men's Basketball Drops 75-61 Contest Against NEAC Champs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Wells College men's basketball team posted a 75-61 loss against the Mustangs of Morrisville State College on the road Wednesday. With their first North Eastern Athletic Conference loss of the season, the Express dip to 0-5 on the year while the Mustangs improve to 3-2 (1-0 NEAC).

Junior Jordan Bishop (Arlington, Texas) scored 12 points in his team's loss, shooting 4-for-6 from the floor. Classmate Shakeel Simmons (Brentwood, N.Y.) added 11 points of his own while Joe Walton (Ocala, Fla.) was the third double-digit scorer for the Express with 10 points. Senior Jordan Jean (Englewood, N.J.) and Simmons each pulled down six rebounds, leading the team in that statistic.

The Express trailed 10-2 in the early going but made an impressive run to eventually take a 19-16 lead following a Simmons layup with 8:54 left in the first half. During that stretch, Wells outscored their opponent by a 15-to-4 margin to cut into the deficit. With the 19-16 Express lead, however, the host Mustangs put the game away with an 18-0 run that spanned over six minutes.

Wells attempted a rally, but the Mustangs built up a game-high 23 point lead with 10:55 left in the contest. In the game's final five minutes, the Express did not allow a field goal to the Mustangs, but the early damage was done. Cumulatively, Morrisville State shot 51.8% (29-for-56) and buried eight three-pointers while Wells shot a combined 24-for-63.

Ibrahima Toure racked up 25 points, leading players from both teams with an 11-for-15 performance from the floor. Tyler Bliss scored 16 points while Joe Hulbert poured home three field goals from distance, racking up 15 points to rank third on the squad.

The Express return to action Saturday, Dec. 6 as they host the Wildcats from the SUNY Polytechnic Institute at 2 p.m.
