Men's Basketball Upended By SUNY Poly, 84-58

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's basketball team posted an 84-58 loss to the Wildcats from the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Saturday afternoon at the Farenthold Athletic Wing. With the loss, Wells falls to 0-6 and to 0-2 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. SUNY Poly evens their overall record at 2-2 while picking up a win in their first league contest of the season.

Senior Jordan Jean (Englewood, N.J.) led the way with 17 points for Wells, appearing in 30 minutes off the bench. Classmate Tyrese Campbell (Staten Island, N.Y.) registered nine points, a season-high mark, while freshman MJ Williams (Riverview, Fla.) equaled Campbell's point production with a 2-for-5 performance from three-point range.

SUNY Poly took command of the game within the game's first two minutes, ultimately shooting 16-for-21 (76.2%) from the floor before converting 15-for-25 (60%) in the final 20 minutes. Wells opened the game with a layup from Campbell, but SUNY Poly answered with a 12-0 run that the Express would not recover from.

Ryan McCarthy led all Wildcats players with 28 points, shooting 10-for-12 from the floor and burying seven three-pointers. Maverick Hodge racked up 19 points while Kaleel Johnson added 16 points of his own. In addition to the team's strong shooting performance from the floor, the Wildcats converted 10-of-15 shots from three-point distance.

The Express return to action Sunday, Dec. 7 as they host the Fighting Tigers from SUNY Cobleskill at 2 p.m.
