Preseason All-America Honor For Rich Ross

Wells College men's basketball junior Rich Ross earned national preseason recognition when he was named to the D3hoops.com Preseason All-America teams for the 2017-18 season.

Ross, a junior guard from the Bronx, N.Y., was named to the Honorable Mention team by D3hoops.com, which makes him one of 25 players in the entire nation to be recognized with this preseason honor. Ross is the first player in Wells history to earn this distinction. He is also the only player from the East Region to make the lists for 2017-18, a geographic area that covers member institutions from the NEAC, SUNYAC, Liberty League, Empire 8 and other select schools.

As a sophomore in 2016-17, Ross was the North Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year and All-NEAC First Team honoree. He was named to the All-East Region Second Teams by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as well as D3hoops.com.

Ross averaged 21.7 points per game over 26 games last season. He led the NEAC in 3-pointers made with 81. He ranked third in the conference in scoring average and was in the top-15 in the conference in steals per game, assists per game, and defensive rebounds per game. Ross shot 40.7 percent from the field, 34.6 percent from 3-point territory, and 79.9 percent from the free-throw line.

On Feb. 17, 2017 against St. Elizabeth, Ross became the program's all-time leading scorer and surpassed the 1,000-career-points milestone. Ross earned NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week recognition three times during the year and was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week on Jan. 9, 2017.

Ross helped lead the team to the second-best record in program history as the Express finished with a 17-9 record. Wells qualified for the NEAC playoffs for the second consecutive year with a 14-4 conference mark, which is the best NEAC record in school history.

The Wells College men's basketball team opens its season Wednesday, Nov. 15 with a 6 p.m. home game against Houghton College at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
