First-Place Morrisville Defeats Wells Men's Basketball

The Wells College men's basketball team challenged first-place Morrisville State College throughout but came out on the short end of an 88-78 final score on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Five Wells players scored in double figures.

Prior to the game, Wells College senior guard Jordyn Tyler was honored on Senior Day. Tyler, a business major from Richmond, Va., started and scored 10 points. He made two 3-pointers and was 4-for-5 at the foul line.

The game featured four ties and six lead changes in the first half. Wells used a 10-3 run late in the first half and took a 32-30 lead on a basket by David Dames with 3:30 left in the half Wells' last lead was at 34-33, but Morrisville scored the last six points of the first half to hold a 39-34 lead at the break.

Morrisville scored on its first eight possessions of the second half to take a 58-42 lead and the Mustangs didn't trail for the remainder of the game.

Wells trailed by 23 points in the second half but rallied to reduce the deficit to single digits in the closing minutes of the game. The Mustangs shot 56.6 percent from the field and Wells shot 41.4 percent.

Macho DeJesus scored a team-best 21 points for the Express. David Dames added 17 points and eight rebounds. Rich Ross scored 15 points, with Jordyn Tyler and Tyree Fisher scoring 10 points each.

Ross had seven assists and seven rebounds.

Morrisville State is 15-8 overall and 13-2 in the NEAC. Wells is 7-16 overall and 5-9 in the conference.

Wells has two regular-season games remaining. The Express hosts SUNY Poly on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. and travels to SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Feb. 17.
