Comeback, Overtime Win For Men's Basketball

The Wells College men's basketball team staged a late comeback to tie the score and went on to a 71-66 overtime victory over Gallaudet University on Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. It was the second straight win for the Express.

A 3-pointer at the second-half buzzer by Zach D'Arpino tied the score 60-60 and capped an eight-point comeback over the final 2:21 of regulation. Gallaudet led 60-52 when Wells got a 3-pointer from Rich Ross, a layup from Jalen Tribble, and the game-tying shot from D'Aprino as time expired. Gallaudet missed two free throws prior to the game-tying shot.

Wells jumped out to a 69-63 lead in overtime that included five points from Ross and four points from Tribble. D'Arpino added a pair of free throws to close out the victory. The Express went 6-for-8 at the foul line in overtime.

Gallaudet led by 18 points in the first half, and had a 31-17 lead at halftime. Wells shot 8-for-29 from the field and 1-for-5 at the foul line in the first half, before shooting over 50 percent from the field in the second half.

Gallaudet played an overtime contest for the second day in a row. On Saturday, Gallaudet defeated Keuka 91-84.

Ross led Wells with 19 points, Tribble scored 17 with 11 rebounds, and Ty McBride added 12 points. D'Arpino and Dylan Frost scored eight points each.

Wells improved to 5-17 overall and 4-10 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Gallaudet is 5-18 overall and 5-9 in the NEAC.

Wells plays at Keuka on Wednesday, and hosts SUNY Poly at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16. It will be Senior Day for Wells against SUNY Poly.
