Clinton, N.Y.- Hamilton College jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and the Continentals went on to rout Wells College 21-2 in a non-league men's lacrosse game at Hamilton's Campus Road Athletic Field on April 27.
Hamilton (10-3 overall) was playing at home for the first time in 20 days. The 21 goals are the most for the Continentals since they defeated the University of New England, 23-3, on March 13, 2007. Thirteen Hamilton players scored at least one goal.
Simon Lai '13 led the offense with three goals and two assists. Chris Whelan '13 and Alex Paganelli '12 chipped in three goals and one assist apiece. Paul Armideo '13 and James Hohm '12 tallied two goals apiece, and Paul Citarella '12 scored his fourth goal and was credited with three assists.
Citarella won all five of the faceoffs he took. Matt Hill '13 won 10 of 11 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls. Landrey Mack '11 won 9 of 11 faceoffs. David Goldstein '13 picked up eight ground balls and Jared Palmer '13 collected seven. Garrett Akie '12 and Max Vaickus '12 combined to make 11 saves.
Dan Munsell '13 and Dan Hunt '11 scored the goals for Wells (2-11). Munsell and Dave Easton '11 picked up six ground balls apiece and Court Carnahan '10 had five. Kyle Brimm '12 stopped 14 shots.
Five players scored for the Continentals during their 6-0 run to open the first quarter. Armideo scored the first goal just seven seconds into the contest, and added his second with 13:10 left in the quarter.
The Express scored their first goal with 26 seconds left in the first quarter. Wells didn't score again until 13:46 remained in the fourth quarter when they had a two-man advantage. Hamilton scored six goals in the second quarter and held a 12-1 lead at the break. The Continentals added four goals in the third quarter -- two by Lai -- and led 16-1 after three.
Hamilton enjoyed a 51-19 shot advantage and scooped up 60 ground balls to 29 for the Express. The Continentals won 24 of 27 faceoffs and were successful on all 13 clear attempts. Wells was successful on just 13 of its 27 clears.
