MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Despite a team-leading three goals by freshman Alex Milliken (Hilton, N.Y.), the Wells College men's lacrosse team posted a 22-6 loss to the Mustangs of Morrisville State College on Saturday. With the loss, Wells evens their overall record at 3-3 while remaining without a victory in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Mustangs improve to 10-3 overall on the season and boast a league record of 4-1.
In addition to Milliken's three goals, sophomore Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.) and senior Alex Manley (South Buffalo, N.Y.) each chipped in with a goal and an assist. Freshman Hayden Haas (Syracuse, N.Y.) also scored a goal for the Express in the loss. Jansen led all Wells players with nine ground balls while defenseman Hayden Shuster (Careywood, Id.) and freshman Cody Roberson (Clemmons, N.C.) each caused two turnovers.
Morrisville State scored nine goals in the first quarter alone, keeping the Express off the board in the game's first 15 minutes. The Mustangs tallied the second quarter's first three goals before Milliken place Wells on the board with only 1:25 left in the opening half of play. Jeremy Beresovoy's fourth goal of the game placed Morrisville State on top by a 13-1 margin entering the half.
The Mustangs continued to keep Wells at arm's length in the second half, outscoring the visitors by a 9-to-5 margin in the final two quarters. The Express outshot the Mustangs in the second half in an attempt to mount a comeback, but the first half of strong play by Morrisville State eliminated any chances of a comeback.
Express goaltender Tyler Bischoff (Allendale, N.J.) drew the loss, allowing 22 goals on 36 total shots on goal. Chris Fiore allowed only one goal for Morrisville State through the first 30 minutes of action, making four saves before yielding to Tyler Catalfano who allowed five golas on 12 total shots faced.
Wells returns to action this Monday, Apr. 14 as they face-off against the Storm of Keuka College in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
