Men's Lacrosse Shut Down By Morrisville State, 16-3

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's lacrosse team lost a 16-3 contest to the Mustangs from Morrisville State College on Monday at the North Athletic Field. Wells drops to 3-8 overall and to 1-6 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference while Morrisville State remains atop the league standings with a 7-5 overall record along with a 6-0 record against conference foes.

Junior Connor Jansen (Horseheads, N.Y.), sophomore Cody Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and freshman Tanner Mingen (Houston, Texas) each scored unassisted goals for the Express.

Wells kept the Mustangs within six goals at halftime, trailing 8-2, but the visitors hung eight goals on the scoreboard across the final 30 minutes of play to capture the decisive victory. Wells was led by four caused turnovers from senior Hayden Shuster (Careywood, Id.), who also posted a team-best four ground balls.

Morrisville State was led by seven points off of four goals and three assists by John Sherlock. Brad Biggs and Andrew Donoghue each scored two goals and two assists while Tom Rosaschi and Brendan Shannon each scored two goals. On defense, Nick Perrotta led the way with three caused turnovers for the Mustangs.

The goaltending tandem of sophomore Elijah Tracey (Utica, N.Y.) and senior Tyler Bischoff (Allendale, N.J.) combined for 11 saves as the former turned aside six shots in the first half of play. Chris Fiore of Morrisville State allowed two goals on three shots before yielding to Tyler Catalfano to being the second half. Daniel Sherlock relieved him to post three saves on four shots.

Wells will have an extended break after playing five games in nine days. The squad will head to Cazenovia this Saturday, Apr. 25 to play in a 12 p.m. contest on their turf field.
