Men's Lacrosse Defeated By SUNY Geneseo, 27-5

AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Cody Roberson (Lewisville, N.C.) potted two goals for the Wells College men's lacrosse team in its 27-5 loss to SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday. With the defeat, Wells falls to 1-3 overall on the year while the Knights improve to 3-2.

Roberson scored twice for the Express and caused a team-leading three turnovers while sophomore Aaron Heisey (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), sophomore Brian Buttner (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and junior Alex Milliken (Hilton, N.Y.) each scored once for Wells. Heisey recorded a team-leading six ground balls and posted a team-best 14 face-off victories.

Down by a 1-0 margin only 53 seconds into regulation time, Milliken's unassisted goal evened the contest at one. A quick 4-0 run, however, would propel the Knights to a 5-1 lead before back-to-back goals from Buttner and Roberson could cut into the visitor's advantage. Roberson would add one more tally in the second quarter, but SUNY Geneseo would record a 11-4 lead at the half.

Despite the halftime deficit for the Express, Wells dominated the face-off "X" after winning eight of the game's first 11 draws while holding the slight edge in ground balls (18-to-17). Express netminder Elijah Tracey (Utica, N.Y.) held his own in cage, making five of his 13 saves of the afternoon in the first 30 minutes of action.

The third quarter, however, doomed any chance of an Express comeback as the Knights outshot the home team by a 26-to-0 margin, pouring home eight goals while reeling in 18 of the stanza's 23 ground balls. Winning 7-of-9 face-offs, the Knights were a perfect 3-for-3 on clears and committed only two miscues to create a sizeable 19-4 advantage heading into the fourth.

Tracey finished with 13 saves for Wells only one game removed from recording 16 against SUNY Oneonta. The tandem of Michael Yehl and Joseph Rugolo yielded five goals on only 10 shots faced for the Knights.

SUNY Geneseo outshot Wells 68-to-19 on the afternoon while holding the 48-to-31 advantage in ground balls. The Knights rallied to take a slight edge in face-off wins, 19-to-17, while committing only 11 turnovers as opposed to Wells' 24.

Wells will continue its stretch of non-league games this Friday, Mar. 25 as it welcomes Benedictine (Ill.) for a 5:15 tilt on the artificial turf field in Aurora.
