Senior Spotlight: Jared Shearer

Senior Spotlight: Jared Shearer

With the cancellation of the remainder of the spring season and the winter championships, at least one Wells College senior spring student-athlete will be highlighted each weekend. Today's featured student-athlete is senior Jared Shearer from the men's lacrosse team.

Jared is a business major from Tampa, Fla., that primarily played midfield for the Express.

Wells head men's lacrosse coach Andrew Daly had the following to say about Jared, "A lone captain this year nominated by his peers, Jared always put the team first who was always willing to hop in goal on a moment's notice. Jared's first priority was making sure his brothers (teammates) were taken care of on and off the field."

Over his career at Wells, Jared appeared in 27 games and started 12 and tallied seven points from a half-dozen goals and an assist. Jared scooped 33 groundballs and caused seven turnovers while also winning 13 faceoffs. His shooting accuracy was over 70 percent for shots on net with 15.

During the shortened 2020 season, Jared appeared in both games as a starter with 13 groundballs and four shots with two on net.

Why did you choose Wells College?

I chose to go to Wells because my mother was an alumnus and when I visited, I fell in love with the campus and applied.

What is your favorite memory at Wells College as a student-athlete?

My favorite memory is when I joined the lacrosse team as a walk-on and was accepted almost immediately into the team and was able to play and grow through my years on the team.

What are your plans after Wells College?

I will be attending an underwater welding trade school in San Diego after graduation.

What advice would you give to the next person wearing your number?

I would tell them to be a team player and to pick your teammates up; nothing is more important than supporting one other.

If you had a favorite class during your time at Wells College, what was it and why was it your favorite?

My favorite class at Wells was scuba diving. It was my favorite because I was able to go to classes for scuba diving at the pool on campus and was later able to get my open water certification for diving.

What will you miss the most about being a student-athlete at Wells College?

I will miss playing lacrosse after class and letting off all the steam of the day and playing with all the great guys we had on our team. I will never forget the memories I made with the boys.
