SECOND HALF GOALS SINK EXPRESS

(Buffalo, N.Y.) The Wells College men's soccer team gave everything they had against the 25th ranked Medaille College Mavericks, allowing just seven shots on goal, but the Mavericks made them count, scoring three unanswered goals in the second half in route to 3-0 victory in game one of the Queen City Classic on Saturday evening in Buffalo, N.Y. George Tor led the Mavericks with two goals, while CJ Bayly (Waymart, Pa./Western Wayne) paced the Express in net with seven saves. With the loss the Express fall to 1-1, while Medaille improves to 2-0.

While the score sheet will show 14 shots  by the Mavericks in the first half, the Express made each and every one of them difficult often blocking or forcing an errant shot wide of the goal. The Maverick defense was just as difficult to solve as the Express would be held to just one shot in the half. Overall, defense would reign as the game headed into halftime in a scoreless tie.

The Mavericks would come out firing in the second half scoring on an indirect kick from 25 yards out less than three minutes in to give Medaille the 1-0 lead. Luck would fall the Mavericks way in the 60th minute as a cross would carom off the post and into the net to extend Medaille's lead to 2-0.  A penalty kick with less than six minutes to play would put the game out of reach for the Express as Medaille held on for the 3-0 victory.

The Express will look to rebound less than 24 hours later as they take on D'Youville College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in the second day of the Queen City Classic in Buffalo, N.Y.
