WELLS MEN’S SOCCER STOMPS GIANTS

AURORA, N.Y. – Six different players scored as the Wells College men's soccer team steadily defeated the visiting Keystone College Giants 6-2 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon in Aurora. Delroy Roberts (Kingston, Jamaica/Schenectady) paced the Express with five points on the afternoon (1 g, 3 a) while CJ Bayly (Waymart, Pa./Western Wayne) earned the victory in net with four saves. Dany O'Rourke (Dublin, Ireland) finished with 12 saves in net for the Giants.

Jonathan Mulcahey (Fulton, N.Y./Cayuga C.C.), Luke Miller (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford), JP Rosas (Guayaquil, Ecuador), William Schanbacher (Lockwood, N.Y./Spencer Van Etten), and Patrick Arancio (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton) all registered a goal while Adam Sullivan (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) added an assist to round-out the scoring for Wells.

James Bell (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) and Jonathan Pineda (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) each scored for the Giants in the losing effort.

Mulcahey started the scoring for the Express, breaking in all alone and chipping a shot past O'Rourke for an early 1-0 lead. The Giants responded in the 30th minute as Bell broke through two Express defenders and sent a shot past Bayly to tie the game at one apiece.

The Express took the lead right back less than three minutes later. Roberts found a Rosas, who blocked off two defenders and sent a shot short side past the outstretched hands of the goalie for a 2-1 lead.

Wells continued to pressure inside the Giants zone and would draw a foul just minutes later. Miller took the direct kick from outside the 18 and booted the ball directly into a Giant defender but, the ball ricocheted back to Miller, who did not miss the second time, sending a rocket into the net for a 3-1 lead.

The Express were not finished. Roberts found an open Schanbacher -- 30-second later --at the top of the box and he delivered a shot to O'Rourke, which looked to be an easy save but, the ball would slip through his gloves and into the goal, capping a three goal storm in a span of 3:08 to give Wells a commanding 4-1 lead heading into halftime.

Wells continued their offensive surge in the second half. In the 59th minute Roberts redirected a Sullivan cross out of mid-air past the goalie, extending the lead to four (5-1).  The Express put the game out of reach for good in the 77th minute as Arancio took a pass from Roberts and sent a shot far post past the keeper for a 6-1 lead.

The Giants added a goal in the 83rd minute but it would be too little too late for the Giants as the Express cruised to a program record fifth straight victory.

The Express dominated from start to finish outshooting the Giants 21-13 and holding the advantage in corner kicks 6-3.

Wells returns to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Sage College at 3:30 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
