Express Doubled Up By Nittany Lions, 2-1

AURORA, N.Y. – Defenseman Luke Miller (New Hartford, N.Y.) converted his second career penalty kick opportunity near the start of the second half but the Wells College men's soccer team fell by a 2-1 margin to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Express' overall record falls to 3-2 (1-1 NEAC) while the Nittany Lions remain undefeated, both overall (3-0) and within the conference (2-0).

The game-winning goal for the Nittany Lions came in the 66th minute of play as Andre Lynahping forced home a feed from Wellay Asifuah for the second goal of the game for Penn State Abington, doubling up the Express by a 2-1 score at that point in the contest.

For the Nittany Lions, Joshua Clinger scored a goal at 32:32 of the first half, heading a cross from Matt Howard into the top right of the goal, beating Express netminder C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) for the first goal of the game. Wells appeared to tie the game in the waning seconds of the first half, but the goal was waved off as the ball did not cross the plane of the goal mouth before time expired.

Only 3:42 into the second half, an infraction against an Express player by the Nittany Lions granted Wells College a penalty kick opportunity, taken by Miller. For the second time in his career, Miller blasted the ball past Nittany Lions goaltender James Carlin for the first goal of the game for the Express. Miller remains a perfect 2-for-2 in penalty kick conversions.

Carlin (3-0) collected his third victory of the year, turning aside three of four Express shots on goal. Bayly (3-2) drew his second loss of the season, halting four of six shots on goal in the contest.

Penn State Abington drew five yellow cards as opposed to only one called against the Express. The Nittany Lions outshot the Express 16-to-8.
