Buerkle, Men’s Soccer Edge Gallaudet 1-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Wyatt Buerkle (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season only 3:34 into the second half, providing the only offense as the Wells College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over the Bison of Gallaudet University Saturday afternoon. The victory moves the Express to 5-3 overall on the season while also improving their NEAC record to 2-2. The Bison fall to 2-5 overall and to 0-2 within conference play.

Within the 48th minute of the contest, Buerkle was able to place the Express on the board for good. Tracking a loose ball in the box, Buerkle crashed the net and was able to tap the ball into the right side of the vacant net, evading the grasp of Bison netminder Eric Setzer. The goal was Buerkle's second career goal as well as his second career game-winning goal. His last game-winning goal came against Penn State Berks on Sept. 8.

Buerkle becomes the first player in program history to record two game-winning goals as his first two career points and is tied for fourth place all-time with two game-winning tallies to his credit.

Express goaltender Dominic Finch (Orlando, Fla.) picked up his first collegiate victory and shutout in today's contest, turning aside all 10 shots on goal that he faced. He becomes the second goaltender in program history to record a shutout in his collegiate debut – teammate C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) posted a shutout in his first collegiate game against Hilbert on Sept. 1, 2010.

For the Bison, Setzer (2-5) drew his fifth loss of the season, allowing one goal on six shots.

The Express return to action Sunday, Sept. 23 as they face-off against the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg in a 2:00 p.m. road contest.
