AURORA, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder Wyatt Buerkle (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) scored his third game-winning goal of the season with only 4:51 remaining in regulation time as the Wells College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College Saturday afternoon at the South Athletic Field. With the victory, the Express improve to 6-4 overall and to 3-3 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Chargers fall to 1-5-2 overall on the season and to 0-2-2 against NEAC foes.

Buerkle scored his third career goal at 85:09 of the second half, placing Wells College on top for good. Defenseman Luke Miller (New Hartford, N.Y.) sent a through ball up to a streaking Buerkle, who stayed onside and fired a blast on goal that was turned aside initially by Chargers goaltender Tim Landis, Jr. The ensuing rebound was chested home by Buerkle, who crashed the net to convert his third goal of the season. He remains the only player in Wells College history to have his first three career goals count as the game-winning strikes.

Express netminder C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.) collects his fourth shutout of the season, overtaking Mike Birklin '09 for first place all-time in Wells College history with his 10th career blanking. Bayly made six saves in the victory while Landis, Jr. (1-4-2) turned aside five-of-six shots on goal to draw his fourth loss of the season.

Wells out-shot the opposition by a 19-to-10 margin, including a 13-to-5 spread in the second stanza.

The Express begin a five-game road trip on Saturday, Oct. 6 as they face-off against SUNYIT in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
