Men’s Soccer Dropped By Alfred, 2-0

ALFRED, N.Y. – Despite a seven save performance by freshman backstop Michael Sciotti (North Syracuse, N.Y.), the Wells College men's soccer team posted a 2-0 loss to the Saxons of Alfred University Tuesday evening under the lights. The Express, who entered play this evening ranked 10th in the East Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, drop only their first contest of the season (4-1-1) while the Saxons improve to 3-4 following the non-conference tilt.

Wells held the decisive 9-to-5 shot advantage in the first half of play, but the Saxons fired off 12 shots in the second half, including two goals, to capture the victory. Nicholas Poindexter and Brendan Collins scored goals for Alfred in the 76th and 85th minutes, respectively, off of assists from Richard Lander to power the home team to victory.

The Express were led by midfielder Adam Sullivan (Ithaca, N.Y.) who fired five shots in the game, placing three on goal. Cumulatively, Alfred out-shot the Express by a 17-to-13 margin in the game.

Sciotti (1-1), in his second collegiate start, drew the loss after turning aside seven shots and allowing the two Alfred goals. Alfred goalkeeper Sam Guy earned a complete game shutout, halting all seven shots on goal that he faced.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Sept. 21 as they host the Lakers of Oswego State College in a 2:00 p.m. on the South Athletic Field.
