Bayly's Scoreless Streak Snapped By SUNYIT

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's soccer team posted their first loss of the season within the North Eastern Athletic Conference, falling by a 2-0 margin to the Wildcats of SUNY Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, Wells drops to 7-3-2 overall on the year while the Wildcats boost their overall record to 10-1-1. Within the league, Wells' overall record stands at 2-1-2 while the Wildcats are 6-1 across seven conference games.

Josh Kimber scored for SUNYIT only 5:34 into the contest, elevating the visitors to a 1-0 lead and granting the Wildcats the only goal on the afternoon that they would need. Bazo Coulibaly carried the ball up the field and deked out a Wells defender, opening up the field in front of him. Kimber, streaking up the field alongside of Coulibaly, received a crisp right-to-left feed that was forced past Wells goalkeeper C.J. Bayly (Waymart, Pa.).

Bayly concluded the fourth-longest shutout streak of his career, holding his opponents scoreless following 222:36. The longest streak of his career came between Sept. 4, 2011 through Sept. 13, 2011, blanking his opponents through a combined 381:06. Kimber's goal was the first ever for the Wildcats against Bayly.

Diego Montaleza added an insurance goal in the 86th minute, placing SUNYIT ahead by a 2-0 margin in the game's waning minutes. Montaleza, who sprinted up field, slowed as he approached the goal crease. Waiting for a Wells defender to commit to a move, Montaleza was able to elude the Express backfield and roof the ball past Bayly for the Wildcats' second goal.

Cumulatively on the day, Wells was outshot by a 16-to-13 margin. Midfielder Pat O'Callaghan (Selden, N.Y.) led all Express players with three shots on goal while sophomore Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) placed two shots on net. The Wildcats possessed an 8-to-2 edge in corner kicks despite committing 17 fouls against only seven for the host Express.

Bayly collects only his second loss of the season, allowing two goals on three shots. SUNYIT keeper Malick Faye improves to 10-1-1 overall on the season, blanking the Express by turning aside all eight shots on goal that he faced.

Wells returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 15 as they travel to Utica College to face-off against the Pioneers in a 7:00 p.m. contest under the lights. The game, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 11 on the Wells College campus, was moved to Utica following a weather-related postponement.
