Men’s Soccer Turned Aside By Utica, 3-0

UTICA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's soccer team was saddled with a 3-0 road loss at the hands of Utica College Tuesday evening at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. With the loss, the Express fall to 7-4-2 overall on the year while Utica evens their overall record at 7-7 following the non-conference game.

Utica scored all three of their goals in the second half, starting the scoring after Kevin McAllister converted a penalty kick in the game's 53rd minute. After a scoreless first half, a Wells player committed a foul within the box to set McAllister up to convert the penalty kick, placing the hosts up by a 1-0 margin. The penalty kick by McAllister was the very first allowed by the Express dating back to Oct. 5, 2010 against St. John Fisher.

McAllister struck again just under 10 minutes later, scoring a conventional goal after firing a one-timer off of a pass from teammate Jeffrey Cupka at 62:05 to place Utica up 2-0. Greg Silvestro's fifth goal of the season with just under three minutes remaining added an insurance tally in the waning minutes.

Wells was held without a single shot in the opening stanza. The Express, however, answered in the second half with three total shots – freshman Hunter Sowersby (Sidney, N.Y.) fired the lone shot on goal for the visitors.

Express goalkeeper Michael Sciotti (North Syracuse, N.Y.) allowed three goals on five shots, drawing his second loss of the season. Anthony Caruso picked up the victory for Utica, turning aside Sowersby's shot on goal for his only save of the evening.

Wells hits the road this weekend, facing off against Penn St.-Abington on Saturday, Oct. 19 in a noontime contest. On Sunday, Oct. 20, Wells plays Penn St.-Berks at noon before returning home next Saturday, Oct. 26, hosting Cazenovia on Senior Day at noon.
