O'Callaghan Named To USA Sports Division III Men's Soccer Team

AURORA, N.Y. – Senior defenseman Pat O'Callaghan (Selden, N.Y.) has earned placement on the USA Sports Tours and Events Division III Men's Soccer team, Wells College Head Coach Dan Kane announced on Thursday. O'Callaghan, a member of the men's soccer team at Wells, will join a squad of All-American, All-Region and All-Conference players from around the country as they travel to Brazil this summer to compete in several exhibition contests.

O'Callaghan will join his 16 teammates in Orlando, Fla. on May 27 and will practice for two days before flying to Brazil. Upon touchdown in South America, the team will play three contests in the city of Jundiai and the state of Sao Paolo on May 29, 30 and 31. Next, the team will travel to Rio de Janeiro for their fourth and final game. Across the trip, O'Callaghan and the team will face-off against the top U-22 club teams from the region.

"As a four year player with the men's soccer program at Wells, Pat was an excellent representative for what we stand for and what our players should aspire to become," said Kane. "He has excelled when presented with new challenges and has led by example. We are absolutely thrilled that he will represent Wells College on an international scale."

O'Callaghan earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Men's Third Team All-East Region for his performance for the Wells men's soccer team in 2013. In the process, O'Callaghan became only the second student-athlete in team history to earn such recognition from the NSCAA.

Furthermore, O'Callaghan received North Eastern Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference honors for the first time in his career following the season. Appearing in all 16 games for Wells, the team captain scored a game-winning goal and two assists for four points (1-2=4) in 2013.

Defensively, he led all Express players in minutes played while piloting a backfield that limited opponents to only 18 goals all season. Against league opponents, O'Callaghan and the Express allowed only six goals on the year. Overall, the Express completed their best season in program history, recording an 8-4-4 overall record alongside a league mark of 3-1-4.

O'Callaghan concluded a four-year career with the Express in late October, playing in 66 career games for Wells, tying him for eighth place in program history in that category. His 14 career points, via five goals and four assists (5-4=14), also rank him eighth in the seven year history of the men's soccer team.
