Team Scoring Record Falls In 7-0 Men's Soccer Victory

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Wells College men's soccer team set a program record on Saturday, scoring seven goals in a shutout victory over the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill. With the win, the Express (7-3-1, 3-1 NEAC) have tied a program record for consecutive victories with five to their credit. SUNY Cobleskill dips to 3-8 and to 2-4 within league play.

With seven goals scored, Wells broke the previous team record of six goals, accomplished twice prior. The Express have won six-of-seven games dating back to a 1-0 victory against Oswego State on Sept. 17 while allowing only one goal in their last five contests.

In his very first game with the Express, junior transfer Nicholas Constantino (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) posted two goals, including the first goal of the game at 26:06 off of a Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) assist. Set up by senior Charles Naula (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), junior Wyatt Buerkle (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) scored only 37 seconds after Constantino's first strike to increase the visitors lead to 2-0.

Constantino struck again at 34:12, beating the SUNY Cobleskill goalkeeper one-on-one to create a three-goal lead. To conclude the half, freshman James Duchesneau (South Glastonbury, Conn.) scored his second goal of the season to create a 4-0 lead.

In the second half, Duscheneau recorded his first career multiple-goal contest after hammering home a feed from classmate James McIntosh (Vestal, N.Y.). Freshman Benjamen Schanbacher (Lockwood, N.Y.) sent home a corner kick from sophomore Hunter Sowersby (Sidney, N.Y.) to create a 6-0 lead with his first collegiate goal before junior Levi Christman (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) picked up his second career marker to conclude the scoring for Wells.

Wells backstop Michael Sciotti (North Syracuse, N.Y.) picked up his fourth-consecutive shutout, turning aside all three shots on net that he faced. Steve Seelman made five saves against Wells, allowing seven goals on 12 total shots faced.

The Express return to action Wednesday, Oct. 8 as they face-off against Morrisville State College in a 6 p.m. road contest.
