Men’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Contest At Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – An early penalty kick by the hosts doomed the Wells College men's soccer team en route to a 1-0 loss to the Mustangs of Morrisville State College on Wednesday at Drake Field.

Wells (7-4-1, 3-2 NEAC) drops only their fourth contest of the season and their second within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Morrisville State, who entered play as the No. 8-ranked team in the East Region according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coaches' Poll, improves to 11-2 overall on the season and to 7-1 within the league.

Under heavy offensive pressure in the game's third minute, the referee called the Express for a foul within the box that impeded a scoring opportunity. The Mustangs' Danny Peckham buried a penalty kick at 3:29, granting the hosts a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish. Peckham's penalty kick goal ended Wells goalkeeper Michael Sciotti's (North Syracuse, N.Y.) shutout streak at 376:12 minutes.

The host Mustangs outshot the Express by a 10-to-3 margin through the first 45 minutes and went on to post a 19-to-8 shot difference to conclude the contest. Morrisville State earned three corner kicks while Wells was the recipient of only two.

Sciotti drew the loss despite making 10 saves for the Express. Rob Larkin picked up the win for Morrisville State, turning aside all three shots on net that he faced.

The Express return to action this Saturday, Oct. 11 as they host Bryn Athyn in a 3:30 p.m. contest at the South Athletic Field.
