Men's Soccer Rallies To Defeat Keuka In NEAC Semifinals

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Despite an early 1-0 deficit, the Wells College men's soccer team posted a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Wolfpack from Keuka College on Saturday in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Semifinals. With the 2-1 victory, Wells moves to 13-6 overall on the season and will play the host Mustangs from Morrisville State College this Sunday at 1 p.m. on Drake Field.

Wells picks up its first playoff victory dating back to Nov. 3, 2009, a 1-0 victory over the Mustangs. In addition, the men's soccer team will be the second Wells team to reach the finals of a NEAC Championship in 2015 – the field hockey program claimed its first-ever league championship on Oct. 31.

Senior Max Cherry (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored his team's game-winning goal with only 3:27 remaining in regulation time, dramatically lifting the Express to the victory. Senior Jesse Constantino (Cincinnatus, N.Y.) sent a left-to-right pass that caught the foot of Cherry, who blasted a one-timer into the upper-right corner of the goalmouth.

Trailing by a 1-0 margin through the game's first 11 minutes, the Express tied the game at one in the 71st minute with freshman Jack Pilgrim's (North Kingstown, R.I.) 11th goal of the year. Picking up a loose ball in the goal mouth, Pilgrim blasted a shot that caught the left post for the equalizer.

In the game's 11th minute, Keuka's Paulin Kolodja sent a corner kick from left to right toward the left post. The ball caught the leg of a Wells defender and it caromed backwards into the goal, elevating the Wolfpack to a 1-0 lead that they would carry into the half.

Wells goalkeeper Owen May (Warsaw, N.Y.) earned the win, picking up his 12th in goal for the Express after posting five saves. Keuka netminder Preston Vick made four saves on six total shots for the Wolfpack.

Keuka held the 13-to-11 advantage in shots taken and also posted six of the game's nine corner kicks.
