Road Win For Men's Soccer At Cazenovia

The Wells College men's soccer team won 3-2 at Cazenovia College on Saturday, Sept. 24. The victory pushed Wells back over .500 for the season with a 3-2-2 record overall and a 2-1-1 record in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Cazenovia is 1-6-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the NEAC.

The Express got off to a fast start with two goals from Christian Garavito in the game's first 11 minutes. His first goal was assisted by Carlos Valdivieso six minutes into the game. He added another goal just over four minutes later, assisted by Junger Vargas, to put Wells in front 2-0.

Cazenovia scored in the 28th minute to reduce the deficit to one goal and then tied the match in the 39th minute. Both goals were scored by Jake Robson. The game was tied 2-2 at halftime.

The game-winning goal was scored by Adam Whitaker on a header off a corner kick from Benjamen Schanbacher, and came with 27:44 remaining in the second half. It was the second-straight match in which Whitaker has scored the game-winning goal off a header for the Express.

Wells goalkeeper Owen May made 10 saves to earn the win. Wells outshot Cazenovia 23-19 in the match and had a 15-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Express hosts Utica College Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 5:45 p.m. at the Wells Turf Field.
