Men's Soccer Win Streak Stretches to Four

The Wells College men's soccer team scored once in each half and won 2-0 at Wilson College on Saturday, Oct. 1. The game was hosted by Wilson at an off-campus venue, Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa., due to rainy weather affecting the playing surface at Wilson's on-campus field.

Wells has won four straight games and is 5-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Wilson is 4-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NEAC.

Wells opened the scoring in the 30th minute as Christian Garavito scored on an assist from Hunter Sowersby. Sowersby made a centering pass from the left side and Garavito scored from in front of the net. It was the fifth goal of the year for Garavito. He leads the team in goals and points.

In the second half, Wells doubled its lead as Justin Bingham scored on an assist from Carlos Valdivieso in the 69th minute.

Wells goalkeeper Owen May made seven saves to earn his third shutout of the season and seventh in his career. It was the 18th-career win for May and he ranks tied for second in program history in that statistic, tied with Mike Birklin and six behind all-time wins leader C.J. Bayly.

Wells outshot Wilson 13-12 and had a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks.

The Express continues NEAC play at Gallaudet University on Sunday, Oct. 2.
