Another Narrow Loss For Wells Men's Soccer

The Wells College men's soccer team lost 4-3 in overtime at SUNY Poly on Saturday, Sept. 15. Wells is 2-5-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the NEAC. Four of Wells' five losses this year have been by one goal, including three defeats in overtime. SUNY Poly is 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference.

The Express built a 3-1 lead in the first half. Wells started the scoring in the second minute with an unassisted goal by Dylan Wagstaff, who intercepted a pass by the Wildcats and scored his first collegiate goal.

SUNY Poly tied the score in the 13th minute, but Wells regained the lead shortly thereafter on an unassisted goal from Christian Garavito, the team-leading fifth goal of the year for Garavito.

Wells took a 3-1 lead on a headed goal by Junger Vargas in the 26th minute on a cross from Michael Bove.

SUNY Poly scored before halftime to make the score 3-2 and then tied the game in the early stages of the second half.

The match went to overtime where 17 minutes, 49 seconds elapsed before SUNY Poly scored the match-winning goal.

Wells goalkeeper Colton Jaquith made five saves.

The Express continues NEAC play Tuesday, Sept. 18 at home against Keuka College at 7 p.m.
