EXPRESS MEN PLACE SECOND, WOMEN TAKE THIRD AT NEAC CHAMPIONSHIP

(Cobleskill, N.Y.)─ The Wells College men's swim team finished second in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Swimming Championship held on Sunday afternoon in Cobleskill, N.Y. The women's team placed third in the three day championship event. Gallaudet University earned the overall championship on both the men's and women's side.
 
The Bison men earned the team title posting an overall score of 502 points to outdistance second place Wells (428 pts.). Brian Bennett of Gallaudet earned Male Swimmer of the Year honors for his efforts in leading the Bison's to the Championship.
 
On the women's side, Gallaudet posted a team score of 565, blowing away the rest of the field, including second place finisher Cazenovia (372 pts.). Gallaudet swimmer Carlisle Robinson earned NEAC Female Swimmer of the Year.
 
For the Express men, Matt Sleezer placed first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.84, besting his previous school record holding time of 51.90. Drew Teter moved to second All-Time at Wells in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:36.34. Dan Schilling improved his second All-Time record in the 200 yard butterfly, placing second in the event with a time of 2:24.24. The 400 yard freestyle relay team swam by Teter, Mike Scharvella, Taylor Dunn, and Sleezer placed second with a time of 3:30.87, besting their previous team time of 3:42.95 and moving to second All-Time at Wells. Chris Guard rounded out the third day of events with a third place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle. Guard's time of 19:37.16 earned him the school record at Wells.
 
In women's action, Idolyn placed second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:34.68. Gabby Spencer earned the lone first place finish of the day for the Express, placing first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.82. The 400 yard freestyle relay team; swam by Villiotti, Britta Kilbourn, Erika Bareiss, and Spencer; place second with a time of 4:15.16.
