PITT-BRADFORD TOPS MEN'S SWIMMING

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's swimming team dropped their final home meet of the year to the University of Pittsburg-Bradford 76-46 on Saturday afternoon in Aurora.

 

Despite the loss the Express had several highlights throughout the meet. Thomas Laier (East Nassua, N.Y.) earned a second place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:06.42, moving up to 5th all-time at Wells in the event.

 

Zachary Dvornicky-Raymond (Hector, N.Y.) and Ian Ronan (West Falls, N.Y.) placed first and second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with times of 1:10.64 and 1:12 respectively. Dvornicky-Raymond also earned a second place finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:37.52, earning him the 4th all-time mark at Wells.

 

Taylor Dunn (Williamstown, Mass.) had an outstanding showing in the pool on Saturday afternoon earning a second place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 55.97, while also placing second in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:00.11, which placed him 3rd all-time at Wells in the event.

 

Tyler Fischette (Weedsports, N.Y.) earned a first place finish in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:38.84, while teammate Matt Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) took first in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.39.

 

In one of the more exciting events of the afternoon, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay Team of Dunn, Laier, Dvornicky-Raymond, and Sleezer edged out Pitt-Bradford for first by 67-hundredths of a second with a time of 1:37.08, placing the relay team second all-time at Wells.

 

The Express return to the pool on Jan. 28 when they travel to Geneva, N.Y. to take on Cazenovia College at 1 p.m. on the campus of William Smith.

 

Note: Lone senior Chris Guard (Lewiston, N.Y.) was recognized with a small gift and ceremony prior to the start of Saturday's meet. Guard is a four year swimmer for the program and holds several Top Ten times for the Express.
