Program Record Set In 75-45 Loss To Utica

AURORA, N.Y. –
Despite junior Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) setting a program record, the Wells College men's swimming team posted a 75-45 loss to the Pioneers of Utica College Saturday afternoon at the Wells College Aquatic Center. The Express fall to 1-2 in head-to-head meets while the Pioneers improve to 2-1 on the season.

In the Men's 1000 Yard Freestyle, Sleezer posted a field-best time of 11:36.93, ranking first all-time in program history. He eclipsed the previous program record of 11:55.92, set by Chris Guard '12 on Feb. 18, 2011. Sleezer, who set a program record last Saturday against SUNY Brockport with a Men's 50 Yard Freestyle time of 22.48, set the second highest mark in program history (22.50) to capture first place in today's race.

In the Men's 100 Yard Freestyle race, Sleezer's time of 51.96 ranked him third all-time in program history while defeating Utica's Kaleb Bright by almost three full seconds. Freshman Patrick Munroe (Williamsville, N.Y.) also finds his name amongst the program record books with his performance in the Men's 500 Yard Freestyle, accumulating a time of 5:39.29, trailing both teammate Thomas Laier (East Nassau, N.Y.) and Guard.

In one of the afternoon's closest events, Laier placed second to Utica's Collin Hart in the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle, trailing by only .64 seconds. Munroe also earned his team three points in the Men's 200 Yard Butterfly, placing second behind Scott Wanner of Utica College with a time of 2:22.20.

In the day's final event, the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the Wells College relay squad of Matthew VanArmongen (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Munroe, Laier and Sleezer trailed the first place group by just less than two seconds, recording a time of 1:40.11 to rank eighth all-time in program history.
