Men’s Swimming Suffers 131-89 Setback At Utica
UTICA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's swimming team posted a 131-89 loss to the Pioneers of Utica College Saturday afternoon at the Utica College Pool. With the loss, Wells falls to 0-3 overall on the year in head-to-head meets while Utica improves to 3-2 overall on the season.
Senior captain Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) turned in a time of 1:04.53 in the 100 Yard Backstroke, claiming first place (and nine points) for the Express. He later recorded a time of 23.50 in the 50 Yard Freestyle, edging Utica's Anthony Farber by .38 seconds. In his third and final individual event of the afternoon, Sleezer placed second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:39.45 to secure four points for the Express.
Junior Alex Lamphear (Springfield, N.H.) recorded a second place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle event, completing the day's sixth event with a time of 2:16.13, a season-best time. He later claimed second place in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:36.85.
The men's swimming team will be in attendance as the women's swimming program competes against the College of St. Elizabeth this Sat., Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. The men return to the pool on Sat., Dec. 7 at 1:00 p.m. as they face-off against Ferrum College and host Gallaudet University.
