Men's Swimming Concludes Regular Season With Loss

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's swimming team concluded their regular season with a 53-33 loss to Penn St.-Altoona Friday evening at the Wells College Aquatic Center. With the loss, Wells wraps up their ninth varsity season with a 1-9 overall record. Penn St.-Altoona heads into the AMCC Championships with a 3-7 overall record in head-to-head meets.

Senior Alex Lamphear (Springfield, N.Y.), competing in the final home match of his career, set two season-high times. The first time came in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle (11:48.88) and he followed that time up with a 2:18.39 result in the 200 Yard Backstroke.

Sophomore Lucas Donnenwirth (Frankfort, N.Y.) swam alongside Lamphear in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 13:19.33 to earn eight cumulative points for the Express. Freshman Shawn Snell (Hilton, N.Y.) followed in the next event, turning in a season-best time of 2:30.30 in the 200 Yard Freestyle, capturing second place.

Freshman Owen May (Warsaw, N.Y.) finished second in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.59 while senior Tyler Fischetti (Weedsport, N.Y.) trailed the first place finisher in the 200 Yard Butterfly by only just under five seconds (2:21.78). Donnenwirth later netted second in the 100 Yard Freestyle (1:06.36).

Swimming unopposed in the 500 Yard Freestyle, May and Fischetti placed first and second, respectively, with times of 5:44.97 and 6:05.09. The foursome of junior Tyler Morris (Maryland, N.Y.), Donnenwirth, Snell and freshman Shaurya Singh (Bangalore, India) combined to post a time of 2:06.79 in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.

Wells will next compete at the 2015 North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship, held on the campus of SUNY Cobleskill in mid-February. More information about the league championship will be forthcoming.
