Men's Swimming Defeated at Penn St.-Altoona

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's swimming program posted a 144-85 loss to the host Lions from Penn St.-Altoona on Tuesday evening. The defeat drops the Express to a 1-8 overall record while the Lions move to 3-6 on the season.

The Express captured its lone first-place finish of the evening in the 200 Yard Medley Relay as the foursome of freshman Jordan Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), classmate Arthur Brooks (Morristown, N.J.), sophomore Owen May (Warsaw, N.Y.) and freshman Austin Heil (Medina, N.Y.) touched the wall in 1:59.37, earning the first 11 points of the afternoon for their team.

Heil earned two second place finishes in backstroke events, missing out on first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle by only .94 seconds (54.95) after taking second in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:03.16) earlier in the meet.

Brooks finished just over one second slower than the race's winner from Penn St.-Altoona in the 50 Yard Breaststroke and found himself in the same position in the 100 Yard Backstroke, turning in a time of 1:17.84 to finish only 1.62 seconds slower.

May competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle for Wells, capturing second place with a time of 25.02 to trail the leader by only 1.05 seconds. May also found himself only one spot behind Heil in the 50 Yard Butterfly as the latter finished third in the event (28.60) with the former finishing only one millisecond slower.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Jan. 23 as it travels to the campus of the Hobart and William Smith Colleges to take on the Wildcats from Cazenovia College at 1 p.m.
