One Hundred-Plus Attend Cancer Awareness Swim at Wells Natatorium
The Wells College swimming teams hosed the 14th annual 'Leave it in the Pool Hour of Power Relays' to raise awareness and funds towards Sarcoma Cancer.
More than 100 showed up to either swim or encourage others during the Nov. 12 event at the Wells College Natatorium.
The "Hour of Power" Relay is in honor of Carleton College swimmer Ted Mullin, who passed away in the fall of 2006 from sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer. Funds raised through this event support research at the University of Chicago Medicine into the causes and treatment of sarcoma in young people.
When the event began in 2006, 15 teams joined together to raise team spirit, sarcoma awareness and $11,000. By 2018-19, participation included 164 teams and 7,718 athletes.
Over the past 13 years, participants in the "Hour of Power" raised more than $800,000 for the Ted Mullin Fund for Pediatric Sarcoma Research at the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital.
