Express Swim Teams Split at Penn State

The Wells College men's and women's swimming teams crossed the state line to face Penn State-Altoona on Tuesday, Jan. 14. The women's team emerged victorious by a 92-73 score, while the men's team fell by 10-130.

Leading the way for the women's team was Saoirse Murphy-Collins with a pair of individual first-place finishes. Murphy-Collins took two events in freestyle competition at 50 yards and 100 yards. In the latter, she posted a winning time of 1:02.01 and also had a winning time of 28.29 in the former.

Jessica Boeheim also came away with a first-place finish. Her time of 15:37.81 was the best on the day in the 1000-yard freestyle.

The women's 200-yard medley relay team of Jenna Swift, Hailey Onofre, Feleesha Jones and Caroline Kelemen started the day off with a victory by completing their relay with a 2:40.73 winning time.

On the men's side, Vincent Chen had the best showing for Wells with three, top-three finishes. The current North Eastern Athletic Conference Male Swimmer of the Week was runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.96. Chen also notched a pair of third-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.23) and the 50-yard freestyle (25.35).

The Wells College swimming teams return home for their next matchup on Saturday, Jan. 25 against SUNY Delhi with a 1 p.m. start time.
