MEN'S VOLLEYBALL EARNS FIRST TWO VICTORIES

NEW YORK - The Wells College men's volleyball team earned their first two victories in program history defeating Gallaudet University 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) and Medger Evers College 3-1 (25-15, 24-26, 25-18, 25-15) in day one of the York College Men's Volleyball Classic in New York City.

"This is a great year of firsts, and after last week's really strong performances I'm proud that the guys have been able to put together two great matches, said head coach Richard Gary.

Tonight was about controlling what we do on our side of the net and playing loud, fun Wells volleyball. The guys worked really hard, pushing their transition and blocking game up a notch.

In the first match, Ryan Huggins had a great match, connecting great with C.J. Bayly and blocking really well, and Patrick O'Callaghan put up some great digs and really stabilized the team with his communication and solid decision making. The best part is these guys know they haven't played their best volleyball yet, and they're going to keep pushing to get to the next level.

The second match was led by Caleb Mannix and Paul Hernon. Mannix finished with 17 kills and Hernon added 11 kills. The best part was the timing of these attacks - they played fearlessly, and came back from getting blocke with some big swings. Let's hope we can push even harder tomorrow against two very strong teams in York and Mt. Olive."
