Battumur Named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Freshman Jack Battumur (Denver, Colo.) of the Wells College men's volleyball team picked up North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors for his strong performance this past weekend, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Battumur racked up 31 digs to help lead the Express to a perfect 3-0 record in NEAC play last week. He recorded double-digit dig totals twice in three matches, including 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Keuka Saturday and 16 digs in a 3-1 victory over Penn St.-Altoona later that day. Against Lancaster Bible on Friday, he tallied five digs during his team's 3-0 victory against the Chargers.

The conference leader in digs with 292 on the year, Battumur picked up weekly honors from the league for the second time this season. He has already set the single-season program record for digs in one season, passing C.J. Bayly '14 who posted 269 as a libero last season. He is also one of two players, alongside freshman Scott Litvin (Sayville, N.Y.), to have played in each set this year for Wells.

The Express return to action Friday, Mar. 27 as they host the SUNY Polytechnic Institute for a 7 p.m. contest within the Farenthold Athletic Wing. Wells concludes their fourth season as a varsity program with tilts against New Jersey City and Penn St.-Behrend on Saturday, Apr. 4 in Aurora.
