Wells Men's Volleyball Wins Home Opener

The Wells College men's volleyball team won its home-opener in three sets on Monday, March 5 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. The Express defeated Penn State Behrend by set scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-12.

Wells improved its record to 12-5 on the season. It is the best record to start a season in the program's seven-year history. Penn State Behrend is 8-8.

The Express used a four-point run in the middle of the opening set to break a tie and build a 17-13 lead. Behrend rallied back to tie the set at 21-21, but Wells won four of the next five points with kills by Josh Undari, Brannon Perdicho, and Jonathan Haines to close out the opening set.

Another close set in the second saw Wells rally from a 15-12 deficit in the middle stages. Behrend led 23-22 late in the set before Wells ran off three straight points.

Wells totaled eight blocks in the match, including four in the second set. Ryan Turner had one solo block and three block assists. Robert Patzer and Jonathan Haines each had a solo block, and that tandem teamed up for a block on the clinching point of the second set. Brannon Perdicho added a solo block.

The Express cruised to a 25-12 win in the third set with a .314 hitting percentage on 15 kills and four errors in 35 attempts.

The Express hit .250 in the match with 45 kills. Brannon Perdicho had 15 kills and Caden O'Loughlin had 12 kills. Josh Undari led the Express with 27 assists and Scott Litvin added 11 assists.

Caden O'Loughlin had 13 digs and Brannon Perdicho had 11.

Wells is in action this weekend at Alvernia University for a pair of matches. The Express takes on 13th-ranked Wentworth in the opening match Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. Wells will face Alvernia in the following match at 4 p.m.
