Men's Volleyball Splits Matches On Saturday, March 16

The Wells College men's volleyball team split a pair of matches at home Saturday, March 16 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. In a North Eastern Athletic Conference meeting, Lancaster Bible College rallied for a five-set victory over the Express. Wells closed the afternoon with a three-set win over John Jay College. Lancaster Bible also defeated John Jay in three sets during Saturday's action.

Wells hosts another three-match event Sunday, March 17 with the opening match beginning at 11 a.m. as Wells takes on Wilson College in a NEAC contest. Wilson will then face Penn State Behrend, followed by Wells and Penn State Behrend at 3 p.m.

LANCASTER BIBLE COLLEGE 3, WELLS 2

Wells stormed out to convincingly take the first two sets before the Chargers rallied to win the final three sets. Lancaster Bible is ranked 11th in the nation in the latest AVCA poll, and these teams played in the 2018 NEAC championship match. Set scores were 20-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-12.

Wells hit .241 in the opening set with 12 kills including five from Caden O'Loughlin and four from Robert Patzer. The Express went on an 11-3 run in the second half of the opening set to turn a 13-12 deficit into a 23-17 advantage.

The Express stayed hot in the second set and jumped out to leads of 6-1 and 16-6. Wells hit .261 in the set with 10 kills. Lancaster Bible had nine kills and 10 errors in the set.

Both teams hit efficiently in the third set. Lancaster Bible had 17 kills and four errors for a .464 percentage. Wells had 14 kills and four errors for a .357 percentage. The set had a tie score 14 times, including at 18-18. LBC went on a four-point run to lead 22-18 and took the set 25-22.

LBC won the first six points of the fourth set and maintained a comfortable margin the rest of the way. The Chargers didn't trail in the decisive fifth set and won 15-12.

Patzer had 16 kills, two service aces, one solo block and three block assists to lead Wells. O'Loughlin had 17 kills. Joe Zimmerman, Josh Undari, O'Loughlin, and Liam Kaylor each had six digs. Undari had 47 assists. Ryan Turner had one solo block and five block assists. Justin Williams had eight kills and one error for a .583 hitting percentage.

WELLS 3, JOHN JAY 0

Wells won by set scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-17. Nine different players had at least one kill for Wells, including nine each for Caden O'Loughlin and Robert Patzer. Liam Kaylor had seven kills, two service aces, an assist, and five digs. O'Loughlin added eight digs and five assists. Patzer had five assists and three digs.
