Cross Country Competes at Yellow Jacket Invitational

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The men's and women's cross country teams from Wells College competed at the Yellow Jacket Invitational this Saturday at Genesee Valley Park. The women's squad posted a 10th place finish on the 6K course while the men's team sent five runners to their 8K race, placing 14th in their first scored meet of the season.

Junior Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) earned first place amongst her squad for the 18th-straight event for Wells, recording a time of 24:26.2 while running at a 6:33/mile pace. Teammate Deaven Theriault (Ludlow, Mass.), in the midst of a strong freshman campaign, finished second for the third-straight race for Wells, completing the course in 24:41.8 while running at a 6:37/mile pace.

Sophomore Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) placed 108th amongst the field, running at a 7:07/mile pace to finish in 26:32.2. Junior Anastasia Benson (Rockford, Ill.) finished in fourth amongst Express runners (27:33.8) while freshman Jenn VanWormer (Phoenix, N.Y.) ran at a 7:49/mile pace to finish in 29:09.4. Bailey Brown (Marcy, N.Y.) and Veronica Frisenda (Patterson, Calif.) finished with times of 30:26.6 and 31:51.6, respectively.

On the men's side, junior Paul Hernon (New Hartford, N.Y.) ran at a 6:13/mile pace as the men's cross country squad earned points for the first time all season. Andrew Judson (Court Gambrillis, Md.) was second for Wells, posting a time of 34:45.3 to finish 148th against the field. Ky'aire Reed (Trenton, N.J.) finished one place behind Judson, running at a 7:02 mile pace to finish with a time of 34:55.3 for the Express. Freshmen Andrew Zellers (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) and Raymond Soriano (Laredo, Texas) finished with times of 37:59.3 and 39:56.3, respectively.

The Express return to action Saturday, Sept. 21 as the Express participate in the Jack Daniels Invitational, hosted by SUNY Cortland. Wells Head Coach Dr. Jack Daniels will compete in the race named for him for the very first time.
