GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The Wells College men's cross country team was voted to finish ninth in the first-ever North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Preseason Poll, the conference announced Friday afternoon. The final rankings were determined following a poll of the league's head coaches.

The SUNY Polytechnic Institute picked up seven first-place votes en route to earning 108 total points, edging SUNY Cobleskill by a single point. The Fighting Tigers earned 107 total points and three first-place votes, finishing ahead of third-place Penn St.-Abington with 101 points. Morrisville State College, recipients of a single first-place vote, finished with 84 points while Penn St.-Berks rounded out the top-five with 80 points.

Wells graduates senior Paul Hernon '15 from last year's team, but returns senior Stephen Armstrong (Horseheads, N.Y.) who led all Express runners on four separate occasions in 2014. The team also sent three individual runners to the 2014 NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championship at Genesee Valley Park, setting a program record for participation at the 8K meet, hosted by the University of Rochester.

Wells opens their season Saturday, Sept. 5 as they will compete at the Le Moyne Alumni Short Course Invitational on the 6K course.
