Wolstenholme Named Head Coach for Wells Softball

Wells College has hired Erin Wolstenholme as head coach of the Express softball team. Wolstenholme has been promoted from assistant coach to take the helm of the Wells College program. She brings coaching experience and softball expertise following a stellar playing career at SUNY Cortland.

Her softball career included three appearances in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament and three SUNY Athletic Conference championships under National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame head coach Julie Lenhart.

"I am very pleased to introduce Erin Wolstenholme as the new head coach for Wells College softball. Coach Wolstenholme brings an extraordinary level of experience as a player and leader," Wells College Director of Athletics Mike Lindberg said. "Erin has learned from some of the best coaches in the country, and will bring this knowledge to develop a strong foundation for our softball program. The Wells Express softball team is in good hands."

Wolstenholme is a 2015 graduate of SUNY Cortland, where she earned a bachelor's degree in sports management. She is completing her graduate work in December 2016 for her master's degree in sport management.

She was a three-time all-conference player in softball and earned all-region recognition once. Wolstenholme finished her career ranked in the top-10 in career statistical lists at Cortland in games played, home runs, and RBIs.

"Our student-athletes will learn by example," Lindberg said. "Not only how to play the game, but how to apply the game to their everyday lives."

At Wells, Wolstenholme served as assistant coach to former head coach Liz Slupinski, who was named head coach of the softball team at the University of Redlands in California. Wolstenholme assisted in coaching the Wells softball team during the non-traditional season in the fall and was able to develop working relationships with the student-athletes on the current roster.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to take on the head coaching position for the softball team here at Wells. This is the perfect place for me to start my head-coaching career and I look forward to creating the building blocks this program needs," Wolstenholme said. "We were very pleased with how we ended our fall season. The team played with a lot of energy and confidence, and that's what we're looking for in our athletes."

She is the assistant coach for the Wells College women's basketball team. In addition to her softball career, Wostenholme played four years of varsity basketball and was a team captain at Cortland.

Wells will play a full intercollegiate schedule in the spring of 2017 as members of the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The varsity softball program has been re-launched for the 2017 season and will play its home games on the new Wells College Turf Field facility.

"Our roster will be bolstered by several multi-sport athletes joining us for the spring, and we're looking forward to seeing how everyone contributes to the team," Wolstenholme said. "We also can't wait to break in our new turf field."

The softball program at Wells College competed at the varsity level beginning with the 2000 season and continued through 2014.
